Leading the Charge to Remove Children from Mine Sites

The VoC Program by WiM-Africa is set to make a significant impact on the lives of children and communities across Africa. By addressing the issue of child labor in mines through a structured, phased approach, WiM-Africa is not only rescuing children from hazardous working conditions but also paving the way for a brighter future through education and empowerment.

This critical issue, which affects the lives of countless children across the continent, is being tackled through a comprehensive, multi-phase approach. WiM-Africa, known for its dedication to empowering women and advocating for sustainable mining practices, is now taking the lead in this vital campaign to protect and uplift the youngest and most vulnerable members of mining communities.

The Three Phases of the VoC Program

The VoC Program is meticulously structured into three distinct phases: Awareness, Campaign and Data Collection, and Enrolling Children in School. Each phase addresses a critical component of the initiative, ensuring a thorough and effective strategy.

Phase 1: Awareness

The first phase of the VoC Program focuses on raising awareness about the harsh realities of child labor in mines. WiM-Africa is leveraging various platforms and channels to disseminate information, including social media campaigns, community meetings, and collaborations with local and international media. The goal is to enlighten communities, stakeholders, and policymakers about the detrimental impact of child labor on both the children involved and the broader society.

Key activities in this phase include:

- Organizing community workshops and seminars

- Distributing educational materials and resources

- Engaging with local leaders and influencers to spread the message

Phase 2: Campaign and Data Collection

Our teams are engaged in a robust campaign coupled with comprehensive data collection efforts. This phase aims to mobilize support, gather critical data, and create a detailed understanding of the extent of child labor in mines. WiM-Africa is working closely with local organizations, governments, and international bodies to collect accurate data and develop a clear picture of the problem.

Phase 3: Enrolling Children in School

The final phase of the VoC Program is centered on providing tangible solutions by enrolling affected children in educational institutions. WiM-Africa is collaborating with local schools, educational NGOs, and community organizations to facilitate the transition of children from mines to classrooms. This phase also includes providing necessary support such as school supplies, uniforms, and financial aid to ensure sustained attendance and success. Establishing monitoring systems to track the progress and well-being of enrolled children.
