The Responsible Mining Program by Women in Mining Africa (WiM-Africa) is a dedicated initiative aimed at promoting ethical practices, safeguarding human rights, and fostering sustainable development within the mining sector across Africa. Centred on the principles of responsible mineral sourcing, child protection, gender equality, and safety, this program endeavours to create a positive impact on mining communities, particularly focusing on the welfare of women and children.

The Responsible Mining Program by Women in Mining Africa (WiM-Africa) exemplifies a commitment to ethical leadership, social responsibility, and sustainable development in the mining sector, striving to create a more inclusive, equitable, and safe environment for all stakeholders involved.

Objectives
  1. Responsible Mineral Sourcing: Advocate for and facilitate responsible mineral sourcing practices among mining companies in Africa, ensuring adherence to ethical standards and environmental regulations and most especially adopting standard practices when engaging with women at the mines across Africa.

  2. Child Protection: Collaborate with stakeholders to implement strategies for the removal of children from hazardous mining activities, providing them with access to education, protection, and support.

  3. Gender Equality: Promote gender equality within artisanal mining communities by advocating for better work models that empower and protect women miners, ensuring equitable opportunities and fair treatment.

  4. Safety of Women at the Mines: Prioritize safety measures and protocols within mining operations to safeguard the well-being and health of all workers, with a particular focus on addressing the unique risks faced by women in the mining industry.

Outcomes
  1. Increased adoption of responsible mineral sourcing practices by mining companies, leading to improved transparency, traceability, and ethical standards in the supply chain.
